I presented to the emergency department on the 20th December with a severely infected abcess in a very sensitive area. We only had to wait a very short period of time and when a male doctor had to examine the area he made sure to have a female nurse present. Staff in the ED were all very professional and friendly and made sure I was comfortable and I was given pain relief quite quickly. I was admitted that night to the acute surgical unit. Night nurse was lovely and caring and made sure to check on me regularly as my blood pressure was quite low. I had surgery the following day. All the staff who looked after me in the surgery were lovely, caring and respectful, especially the male nurse who looked after me as I was waking up and held water for me to sip and showed me pictures of his dog :)
Staff back on the acute surgical unit could not have done a better job of caring for me upon my return and were also caring of my partner who was there and worrying about me. One staff member even remembered that I said it was his birthday and wished him a happy birthday.
I was anxious to return home and staff did all they could to expediate this, including the pharmacy doctor who stayed past his home time to help us sort out medications to take home.
All up I wish to thank all the staff I encountered and congratulate them on their professionalism and caring natures.
"Great service in the Canberra Hospital"
