"Pregnancy checkup"

About: Angliss Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently my daughter and her partner attended a regular pregnancy checkup at Angliss House in Ferntree Gully. My daughter returned home in tears after a bad experience with the obstetrician. Her other appointments have been with midwives which have made her feel very comfortable and cared for.

Unfortunately, today as she is nearing 36 weeks, she felt that the obstetrician was very rude and abrupt causing her to feel very uncomfortable and emotional. My daughter does suffer from anxiety which she is medicated for and this was marked on her file. She has had a very good pregnancy, which is her first, up until what my daughter felt was a lack of care given by this obstetrician. Their attitude was unacceptable for someone at this late stage of pregnancy and I just wanted to pass on my disappointment so other women don't encounter the same treatment.

I called the centre and the receptionist was so kind and helpful referring my daughter on to a midwife immediately who calmed her. In this conversation, the midwife offered to give her a tour of the hospital birthing suites to reassure her where she would need to go when she went into labour. This question of where to go was one my daughter had planned to ask at her appointment but forgot as she was so upset. After the care of this midwife, my daughter came home happy and relaxed which is all we hope for at this stage.

Dear Caring Mum

Thank you so much for sharing your daughter's experience at her recent antenatal appointment with the obstetrician at Angliss Hospital. I would like to offer my apologies for her experience and was pleased to read your daughter's other experiences had been positive ones (as was the subsequent follow up).

In order to follow this up directly, I would welcome the opportunity to know more about your daughter's experience and offer for her to make direct and private contact with me at David.plunkett@easternhealth.org.au

If this option is taken up, I will then be able to arrange for your daughter's experience to be reviewed with the aim to make any necessary improvements.

I hope your daughter’s pregnancy and birth are positive experiences and would welcome any further feedback (positive or not).

Many thanks again and kind regards

David
