I recently took ill with breathing difficulties while swimming at Cowes and was admitted to Wonthaggi Hospital.
My treatment started as soon as I was in the ambulance. I was given oxygen and my heart was monitored. As soon as I reached the hospital I was immediately seen and blood samples were taken and a stent for future treatments inserted in my arm. I was then given a CT scan to assess the problem which turned out to be pneumonia. All this in less than an hour.
I was then given antibiotics and sent to the medical ward. I had to stay for two nights during which time my condition improved considerably.
All the staff I met were amazing and seemed to work so well as a team. The standard of care is extremely high. I watched two hospital staff cleaning and making up three beds in my ward. They were meticulous. They cleaned every surface. They cleaned the mattress both top and underneath and all the bed framework.
Even the food I received here was very good and the kitchen deserves great praise as well. All the meals were freshly made and tasty.
I am on holiday from Scotland, and although falling ill was dreadful, the care I received at Wonthaggi made it a much better experience than an event like this would normally be. Well done to all the staff in this excellent hospital.
