"Professionalism"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Renal (Nephrology) & Urology & Endocrine Medicine & Ward 6A/6B/6C

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I approached the Renal Office to inquire about a letter from a recent clinic appointment for my GP. When I approached the office window the staff member I spoke to, in my opinion, was extremely erratic in their behaviour and seemed to not want me to disturb them. The roller-shutter covering the window was only partly up making it very difficult to talk to them as they mumbled and the window only has holes in it.

I also saw this staff member appeared to be wearing track pants and a jumper, which as a consumer, I feel is highly unprofessional and does not depict a good view of the service offered. I see other office staff who wear uniforms and feel this would give a better view of the service.

Dear I want to be anonymous,

Thank you for taking the time to write. I agree with the sentiments you express and want to extend my apologies as what you have described is completely unacceptable. Ensuring that our staff are professional and respectful in their interactions, and are dressed appropriately, is extremely important. We are about to introduce a structured program of work across the organisation in reiterating our values and supporting our staff to ensure they don't inadvertently fall short of anyone's expectations including ours, their own or those of our patients.

With regard to your specific feedback, I will be chasing up the specific challenges raised by you with the renal and outpatients team directly.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards

Dr Aresh Anwar
