"In reference to my title"

About: Box Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

Do other women ever find that when they use the prefix Ms when filling out a form that Ms tends to become Miss somewhere in the administrative pipeline?

I noticed that the medication I had been prescribed has my details on it as Miss. I would never have filled out a hospital form with Miss. I only ever use Ms just as men are only ever known as Mr.

Either Box Hill Hospital or the Health Smart Pharmacy within Box Hill Hospital changed this. Normally I do not complain but, I'm in a real foul mood and I'm fed up with organisations, companies and government agencies allowing this to occur.

Why is it acceptable in 2018 to change this title?

Why is it still acceptable to identify a woman by whether she is or is not married?

As a go-to tick-box option, the prefix of Miss might be acceptable for girls under the age of eighteen, but never as a default option for an adult female. If a woman chooses to refer to herself as Miss or Mrs, then so be it. But that ought to be the woman's prerogative. The default option should always be Ms. When in doubt, ask! If you cannot ask, then select Ms.

Dear Fearless Shieldmaiden

Thank you so much for providing your feedback regarding the use of titles during your recent experience at Box Hill Hospital and the Health Smart pharmacy located on site.

I will make sure your feedback is provided to both the Eastern Health Pharmacy service and the Health Smart Pharmacy so they can use this as a learning experience and also to confirm the title women would like to use.

My sincerest apologies that your preferred title was not used in this instance.

Kind regards
