"Care in ED"

About: Broome Health Campus Derby Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My child was unwell, we went to ED twice in a week. Derby ED staff were all caring and explained the nature of my child's illness. We then had to go to Broome ED when visiting friends in the town. Again ED staff were very thorough and considerate.

When admitted to the ward at ED, in my opinion the pediatric registrar made me, as a mum feel I'd over reacted and our admission was not warranted. This was a disappointing way to end our interaction given the great care in ED.

Thank you for taking the time to post your appreciation in regard to the care your child received at Derby and Broome Hospital's Emergency Departments. Your kind comments will be passed onto the ED staff.

I hope your child has made a full recovery now.

It was disappointing to hear that the experience you had in ED was not mirrored in the ward. Parents and carers know their child best and having spoken to you about what occurred, I can assure you, we will investigate what occurred when your child was admitted to the Paediatric Ward at Broome Hospital.

If you would like to contact the Operation Manager, Donna Hindmarsh at Broome Hospital she is also very happy to talk to you further about this - 9194 2855.

Kind regards,

Rachele Humbert

Operations Manager, Derby Hospital
