"Geelong Hospital Staff"

About: Geelong Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I recently had surgery for endometriosis. It had been the second surgery in 3 years after living with it for 15 years. Only changing doctors (to Dr Bryan) was the answer to my years of suffering. Although I still suffer, it was music to my ears having a diagnosis. He is the most amazing GP. Anyway moving through, I had been continually bleeding and in a huge amount of pain, and had developed an itchy skin rash.

So after the second lot of different antibiotics Dr Bryan sent me to the ER. When I entered the ER it was semi-busy with a lot of older people who seemed to be very well looked after by the nurses and a child with an obvious concussion coming off their bike. The nurses and doctors were all doing an amazing job. I was only in the waiting room for about 30 minutes when I was greeted by a beautiful doctor named Kimberly. She took me straight through, got me comfortable with pain relief and a bed. She proceeded to bring a lovely medical student through to pop the IV in, as they said I would most likely need to stay overnight as they suspect a severe infection in the uterus. I never caught her name, but she was so kind and gentle and she did a great job. But it was a bit sad, as I don't think she had heard from a patient that she was doing a fantastic job. Even though Kimberly was very complimentary, I think it is important to hear this from patients.

I had all my bloods and swabs done in ER with Kimberly agreeing that it seems the infection was quite severe. The ER staff in my opinion are doing a wonderful job and it wouldn't hurt to remember that they are all on their feet for 10+ hours a day, seeing sick children, elderly and mishaps not to mention the abuse. They chose to help people by studying long and hard hours to help people. Just remember that.

I ended up having to stay in a ward for 4 days on an antibiotic IV cocktail as I was in a pretty bad state. I made a couple of friends in my ward, we laughed and had a ball. We were the loudest patients in the Short Stay Ward, but all the nurses loved us. A shout out to all. Georgia, Guy, Jo, Molly, Penny and Dan just to name a few. And Rob for always smiling and bringing me coffee. Keep up the amazing work, all of you are priceless!

I'm home now and although I'm still not 100%, time and antibiotics will make me better. But without your constant care while I was in the hospital I would still be extremely sick. You guys are absolute ANGELS! <3
