"RPH Emergency Department"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended emergency department on advice of my doctor for my teenage child. We were not high triage and so ended up spending 12 hours in ED.

Staff were professional and courteous and the delay related to uncertainty about my teenager's diagnosis and decisions to seek second opinions and do further tests.

It was long and boring, but at least we felt like we were being taken seriously and cared for.

Dear starfish,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department.

While it pleases me to read that our staff were professional and courteous, I would like to apologise for the extreme delay in attending to your teenage child. We have been working on reducing the wait for our patients in our ED with the aim of seeing patients within 4 hours of being triaged and while sometimes more serious cases get priority, 12 hours is far from what we like to achieve.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, as through feedback such as yours we can work to improve our service delivery.

Regards Dr Lesley Bennett

Hiya,

Just to clarify ... it did not take 12 hours to be seen, it took 12 hours to be sent home with long delays while waiting for the senior doctor to see us and then two tests. Your triage to first seeing someone targets is probably still in tact.

Dear Starfish,

Thank you for your further clarification. The long delays that you experienced in the Emergency Department is unacceptable to us. I would once again like to apologise and to assure you that the team in the Emergency Department, with the support of other hospital staff, are working to minimise the chance of this reoccurring.

Kind regards

Dr Aresh Anwar
