Recently I was taken to Maroondah Hospital after having a fall at home and hitting my head. Upon arrival I had a general assessment done then taken for a CT scan for safety. We discussed the reason for my fall and I was admitted as I could neither stand or walk.
Upon admission, I stayed for around a week. My stay with the staff there was wonderful and I could not fault them. Two days, in particular, they were run ragged as they had two very ill patients that took up so much of their time. I was amazed by how they coped with everything asked of them, always without being irritated at me asking for something.
The only thing that I see fixing urgently is more staff! On the ward, the staff were being assisted by students on placement who helped when they were on, but obviously they are not there all the time with that extra pair of hands helping with things like BPs, getting pans, etc. At least one extra full-time staff member per shift is really needed!
