"Amazing care at Box Hill Hospital"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

Late last year my husband was admitted to Ward 9.2 following a serious stroke. From the  very outset of our experience at Box Hill Hospital, beginning in the Emergency Department, my family and I were overwhelmed by the care and attention shown not only to my husband but to our entire family. Given how busy the staff were, we were continually amazed by, and grateful for, the level of communication, respect and patience from all members of staff.

Several teams were involved: MET (Medical Emergency Team), Stroke Team, Gastro. Team, Palliative Care Team...we were kept fully informed at all times, and appreciate the time, respect and concern offered.

It was a long and harrowing journey, and I believe strongly that my husband, even when he neared the end, was upheld, as I was, by the love shown and felt from all staff as they attended to every aspect of his care.

If the culture on Ward 9.2 (and I include ancillary staff as well!) is typical of that within the rest of the hospital, then I'd say Box Hill Hospital has nailed the formula!

Many, many thanks!

Dear Continually amazed

Thank you so much for sharing your experience from late last year at Box Hill Hospital - this must have been an incredibly difficult time for you and your family. Please accept my sincerest condolensces with the passing of your husband.

Your feedback reinforces why I think Eastern Health is such a great place - the people! It's evident they demonstrated our values of Patients First, Kindness, Respect, Agility, Excellence and Humility - and you certainly came into contact with so many teams as well!

It will give me great pleasure to share your feedback with these teams so they get to see first hand the difference they make each and every day.

Take care and kind regards

David

Dear David,

Thanks so much for your prompt reply to my feedback... I am so pleased it will be shared with those teams involved. I should add also that it was great to receive a friendly greeting each morning from coffee shop and security staff downstairs. A cheery and welcoming smile can uplift you no end when it feels as if the bottom is dropping out of your world.

I am well aware that my husband was extremely lucky to be allowed to outstay the normal length of time in what is designated an acute ward...it would seem so very logical to me for there to be a palliative care ward created on site, given the number of stroke and oncology patients passing through your doors! Please, please consider this!!

Again, thank you very much for your response, and blessings to all of you!
