Alcohol has always been a crutch for me. When I was going through trauma it would be the first thing I turned to to get me through. I was never an alcoholic. When I was drunk, if I ran out of wine which was my drink of choice, I wouldn't raid the house for the cooking sherry or anything like that.
But in recent times, I definitely became a problem drinker. My life was spiraling downwards, my career, social life and children were suffering because of it. When I hit rock bottom, I was told about Lives Lived Well. I went to them for help and guidance. I had been to other counsellors in the past with little success. I think you need to know you need help in order to get better and be ready to make the change, but the individual counsellor and program makes all the difference in your progress.
My counsellor's name was Travis and I cannot praise him enough for his down to earth, practical, compassionate approach to counselling. He not only encouraged me to find alternatives to drinking to help me through tough times, he also helped me to explore my inner self, find strategies and coping methods to deal with stressful situations and plan my life with my family so I had goals, objectives and organisation.
I now have the ability to control my drinking. I enjoy my wine, but can stop at two glasses when I feel like a drink. Most nights I don't even drink. Lives Lived Well is supportive, encouraging and compassionate. I recommend them to anyone that is looking to improve their life and have a happy and healthy future.
