"ED Mt Gambier Doctor"

About: Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service

(as the patient),

After days of finding it increasingly difficult to manage a chronic pain condition, I was at my wits end, anxious and desperate for help. It took me hours to summon up the courage to present to the hospital for someone to help me. Yes, I had also self-harmed.

After the standard couple of hours wait where I became more anxious, I was taken through by an excellent nurse who gathered the info. she needed. I could hear the staff arguing at handover (it was obviously a stressful night for them) and a doctor came into my cubicle. Amongst other things - he told me that this was an ED, not a Crisis Centre and their job was to patch people up and send them home; what did I want from him? Naturally I was very upset and refused to speak to him further until I had my nurse in the room. Essentially in the end, he gave me 2 Temazepam and sent me home in the middle of the night (without checking to see if I was driving myself). I felt he was so rude and abrupt that I didn't trust him to treat my physical wounds which the nurse took care of for me. Never will I go there again.
