"Care received at Bunbury Hospital Emergency Department."

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department Bunbury Mental Health

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently I brought my adult son to the ED as he had feelings of self-harm. From the minute we entered the waiting area he was treated swiftly, with empathy and with respect. The triage nurse was brilliant with him and she had experience with mental health having worked at Head Space. We were offered a quiet room to wait in which really helped. The doctor was excellent; she listened and used words that were easy for him to relate to. However, it was the psych liaison nurse Martin who really impressed. He was really helpful, spoke directly and didn’t ask for all the facts to be repeated. He had read the notes so he cut to the pertinent issues quickly and directly. I honestly could not fault any aspect of his care. So well done to all. It would be good to see a dedicated fast track area to treat MH (mental health) presenters as being seen and managed swiftly gave a very positive message to us. Well done to all.

Dear ariesre63

Thank you for your feedback regarding the care your son received in the Emergency Department at Bunbury Hospital.

I am happy to hear Martin, the Psychiatric Liaison Nurse showed such empathy and respect during what must have been a difficult time for you and your son.

I will personally pass on your positive comments to Martin who is a very experienced and valued member of the team.

It is heartening to see our staff delivering on the WA Country Health Services values in their daily practice.

There is an area in the Emergency Department for assessing patients with a mental health presentation and it is good to know that your son was able to access a quiet area.

I would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you regarding your idea of a mental health fast track.

If you would be happy to discuss please call me Nik Booker on 9722 1422

Yours sincerely

Nik Booker
