"Waiting for hours"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I came into the Sydney Eye Hospital for an emergency in the middle of the night. That night I was seen promptly and the staff were very good. I was told to come the next day to see the specialist when I asked if I could make an appointment I was told to just come in and I would be seen. I came the next day at 11am and had to wait 4 hours before seeing the doctor. My condition worsened by having to wait so long. The wait times are ridiculous. Something needs to be improved to rectify a broken system. Perhaps allowing appointments to be made would aid in this.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent visit to the Sydney Hospital/Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency Department. I am sorry that you experienced long waiting times to be seen by a specialist when you were asked to return for review.

Unfortunately, public hospital Emergency Departments are busy places, where people are seen and treated according to their clinical condition, and not by order of arrival. I am sorry if you felt like your wait was unnecessary, I hope that you find any future visits more satisfactory.
