"Consulting rooms reception"

I attended a doctor in the private consulting rooms recently. The doctor was courteous and specifically asked that I phone his rooms after I had an ultrasound. He said he would definitely phone me back. I phoned reception four days later. The receptionist said the doctor would probably not phone me back and I asked them to send the doctor an email saying the results were ready. I think it is unprofessional, discourteous and very poor patient follow-up for a receptionist to make decisions on behalf of a medical practitioner when a person's health and treatment can be jeopardised.
