"PATS decision"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Goldfields

(as the patient),

Several years ago I sustained a whiplash injury that resulted in spinal fractures with disc damage. Last year I suffered an acute onset of cervical nerve injury symptoms including vertigo, nausea and severe headache. Following a CT scan at Kalgoorlie Hospital, my GP referred me for an urgent MRI in Perth and directed me to fly to reduce the risk of further damage. I took my form to PATS and explained the need for the flights. After flying to Perth ($900 return) and obtaining the MRI I had a call from the PATS officer informing me that I would be reimbursed $210 for return train tickets. The PATS clerk was as helpful as they could be. I just wonder how the person who made the decision that I would be safe to travel by train was able to diagnose my condition without knowing my medical history or having MRI results? I believe people have flown to Perth under PATS with lesser injuries. I feel discriminated against and disadvantaged.
