"Emergency department"

About: Bass Coast Health

(as a parent/guardian),

My teenager often plays football. Recently one weekend my teenager had played in a match and been tackled to the ground and landed heavily on their left wrist.

I thought it was just a sprain so, as a nurse myself, I treated it with ice and some rest.

After a few days however, the pain in my child's wrist had gotten slightly worse instead of better, so we made to trip to the hospital Emergency department to be seen by a doctor.

Upon arriving at ED we were informed there could be a bit of a wait as there were several people already waiting in the waiting room.

We were more than happy to wait and ensure other people, who were more needing of medical attention than my child, were seen first.

The staff of the Emergency department were very kind and caring, ensuring we were fully informed of the treatment of my child, the doctor was able to speak to my teenager about football, make child laugh, and put my child at ease in an anxious situation. The nursing staff were very professional as well as empathetic and caring.

It was good to see our hospital from the other side of the bed and experience the wonderful care and concern shown by the fantastic staff.

Thank you so very much to all the staff in ED, you do a difficult job with the greatest attention to detail and comprehensiveness and it is reflected in your care.

We will be back again, just hope not too soon :)

Dear Nurse becomes patient,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback - it brings a totally different lens to be the patient, or to be the patients family - and it's a good way to really test how a service operates. I am so pleased that it was a good experience and I know the ED staff will be very appreciative of your feedback. It is really pleasing that the staff kindness and compassion came through - it is our aspiration that these attributes always sit as the cornerstone of our care. I hope your child's wrist is doing OK.

Kind Regards,

Jan
