I have monthly venepuncture for ongoing health reasons. I have a healthcare background with long experience in venepuncture of clients with difficulty in venous access.

On two occasions over two consecutive months, I had blood drawn by the same staff member. On the first occasion, they attempted venepuncture on both cubital fossae, piercing both sides of the veins as they attempted to draw across the veins instead of with the veins. I suggested to them that they were off track after the first attempt but they insisted that they were correct. It was very painful and I was left with what looked like a snakebite over both left and right arms. That is two puncture marks at each site.

On the second occasion, they again pierced through my vein causing pain and excessive bruising.

I will not allow this staff member to access my veins again.

Usually, the phlebotomists have no problem and my veins are visible.

I am sorry to hear of your poor experience at our Albany collection rooms. We do pride ourselves in having well trained and experienced phlebotomists in our team, however it appears in this case we have let you down.

Would you mind please contacting our Albany laboratory Manager Mr David Clark, on 9892 2242 in order to provide us with some more information? This will ensure we can follow up with the staff member involved, and provide some additional training.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback so that we can continue to improve our service, and hopefully prevent yourself and others from experiencing a sub-standard venipuncture experience.
