About: PathWest Joondalup Collection Centre

(as the patient),

I have been attending various PathWest Collection Centres as I require regular blood tests.

The Joondalup Centre staff are always pleasant and professional. They appear to have two staff working but only one person seeing clients. I understand some clients require more time than others. I have attended at various times during the day to see if the wait time changes. In my experiences, if you are 4th in line you can wait one hour to be seen. If one of the staff members is required to do administrative tasks then I suggest looking at a process so that clients are attended to first. As it is busy service centre the other alternative is to get another person to do collection. The added stress at this centre is that you have to pay for parking. You need to pay for the hour and if you happen to be called in when your meter time is up, the parking ranger is always present and very keen to give you a ticket. I believe having to wait one hour for a blood test or dropping off a sample is unacceptable. I am not sure what the purpose of stamping your form as it seems to be an honour system as to who goes next.

Dear sagittagb77

Thank you for your story on Patient Opinion alerting us to delays to patient specimen collection at our PathWest Joondalup collection centre.

We appreciate any feedback to help improve our services. Your comments about the professionalism and pleasant attitudes of staff working at Joondalup will be shared with them.

PathWest is looking at staffing levels across all its collection centres with Joondalup being part of that review. PathWest is also looking at alternative ways to alleviate patient waiting times. Should you wish to discuss any issues or ideas you may have about how we can improve our processes please contact Elaine Toogood, Manager, PathWest Specimen Collection on Tel: 6457 4514.

Kind regards,

Frances Brogden
