"Dog bite and subsequent infection"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

My beautiful dog and I were happily playing in the park and she got a bit overexcited. I felt something that felt like she had just gone a bit strong, nothing aggressive and I didn't worry about it because it didn't hurt much. About a minute later I looked at my hand and was completely surprised to see it bleeding, a lot!

Went to the GP, had it stitched, all good. The following day my hand was swollen and red from what I thought was just because I had stitches. The day after that it was worse and I could barely move my hand .

The GP sent me to Sydney Hospital where I was admitted for a serious, emergency hand infection.

The nursing staff were beyond lovely, they were respectful, courteous and most of all kind and compassionate.

If I required assistance they were there at my bed within a minute.

One thing that really stood out for me was there was an elderly lady that I shared a room with. English was not her first language and there was a massive communication barrier.

The nurse's nursing her were patient and really took the time in trying to communicate without frustration at anytime.
It was absolutely heartwarming when a nurse who spoke the patients language was charged with her care.

I honestly could not fault anything with the staff at Sydney hospital. Even nurses not charged with my care were more than willing to help.

The nursing students were also fantastic.
