After seeing my optometrist I was directed to attend the Emergency Department at Sydney Eye Hospital urgently. On arrival, I was attended to immediately by very pleasant and helpful staff. At this stage I was extremely anxious and they were wonderful at helping to calm me, especially Danielle, who also took the time and trouble to explain the situation to my daughter.
The only problem that I experienced with this part of the procedure was the very awkward conditions I was placed under in trying to give my details. There was a very badly placed perspex divider between me and staff and I found myself standing on tiptoes to try to speak over this so that I could be heard. At the same time I could see and hear the patient next to me having the exact same problem and actually having to ask for questions to be repeated as they could not hear them. This would be my only criticism as I was then taken inside and examined by a very professional nurse and then by a Dr Travis, who was very detailed in explaining to me exactly what was happening as he tested for retinal detachment. My entire visit from beginning to end took less than 2 hours which I thought was extraordinary! I spent no time sitting and waiting for attention.
