"Parking at PCH"

About: Perth Children's Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

In my opinion the price of parking is way too high. The last thing we need is excuses about contracts with QE2 Medical Centre and this is how it is. No! That is not acceptable. We are at the hospital with sick children ! I believe parking should be free! ! It seems someone is making money out of sick, dying children and it is disgusting. There is no justification. Parents are already dealing with beyond stressful situations and the last thing they need is a huge bill for parking. Plus the toll on families with chronically ill children is horrendous. Do the right thing, tear up any contracts and either make parking free or at the very least lower it to a reasonable rate.

Dear StressedMum76

Thank you for your feedback. We have established a parking concession scheme as we recognise that parking fees can pose a financial burden for some parents and families whose children have complex healthcare requirements resulting in them having to attend the hospital frequently. To find out more about the eligibility criteria for the concession parking scheme and how to apply, please speak to your child’s treating team.

As parking concessions are an initiative of the hospital directly, we appreciate you understanding that the hospital must be mindful that any costs incurred in any parking concessions do not detract from our primary goal of providing care to our patients.

Thank you again for your comments. Please accept my best wishes for your child.

Warm regards

Dr Meredith Arcus

Dr Arcus, firstly I appreciate your response and understand your position. Parking concessions are appreciated however they are not enough. The hospital should not have the added financial stress of parking concessions any more than taxpayers should. Pressure should be placed on Cappella Parking to lower the fees. I believe they are literally making money from sick and dying children. There is no sugar coating it. Contracts signed by previous governments should be null in this case and someone from hospital admin should be fighting this for the patient and their families. What about Patients Come First? It may seem petty with all we go thru, but this is something we find deplorable and insulting. In my opinion, Minister Cook should be doing more to pressure whomever necessary to have the fees lowered.
