"Taking my husband to Kalbarri Hospital Emergency"

About: Kalbarri Health Centre / Emergency Department WA Country Health Service / Emergency Telehealth Service

(as a carer),

My husband came home from work and started shivering fiercely! He had no idea what was happening to him and had a hot shower to see if it made a difference. He returned to the lounge room in a beanie and his dressing gown while also fully clothed. I took his blood pressure and it was quite high and his temperature was also very high so I phoned the hospital. When the nurse answered she told me to bring him in immediately so we left for the hospital.

On arrival 2 nurses went into full swing and nothing was missed. We also had a video conference with a doctor from Albany Hospital. We were in Emergency from 12.45 till 5 pm and my husband had the best treatment and care. They took bloods, gave him penicillin and also a drip, took throat swabs and a chest X-ray. When we left my husband was feeling a lot better and peace of mind that the nurses had found out what was wrong with him. Many thanks to the staff & nurse at Kalbarri Hospital for your diligence and caring natures. We can't thank you enough.

Dear seeker

Thank you for sharing you and your husbands experience with the Kalbarri Health Centre. WA Country Health Service strives to provide high quality, compassionate, professional health care and it is uplifting to know that the care your husband received was of a high calibre and that we helped make a stressful experience for both yourself and your husband a little less so. I will be sure to pass your compliment on the team at the Kalbarri Health Centre.

The link to the doctor in Albany that you mention is the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) which is a wonderful service that uses videoconferencing equipment to connect local doctors and nurses with highly trained, emergency medicine specialists. The emergency medicine specialist is linked via video conference, providing guidance to the local treating team. A consultation with an ETS doctor is just like any other ‘in person’ consultation and allows us to provide high quality specialist care close to home.

Thanks again for taking the time to write on Patient Opinion and I hope your husband is well and truly on the mend.

Warm regards

Michele
