"Busselton Health Campus Electrical Burn Treatment"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I wanted to share my positive feedback regarding my experience in a couple of departments at Busselton Health Campus after an electrical burn injury recently.

I presented to the Emergency Department (ED) on a Saturday at around midday and was triaged in to the fast track queue. The triage nurse was calm and helpful and set me up with first aid in one of the treatment rooms.

I was seen by ED doctor Dr Christopher within around half an hour. He was very helpful and made managing my pain a priority. He took photos which he sent immediately to Fiona Stanley Hospital for review. He kept me informed regarding his assessment of the burn and the potential implications for treatment. Once he had advice from Fiona Stanley, he passed this on with a referral letter. I was also treated by a nurse in the ED who kept an eye on my pain and my overall experience. She liaised with Dr Christopher regarding the recommended dressing, and Dr Christopher stayed to watch her facilitate the dressing and asked questions about it as she went. He didn't let any pride get in the way of the learning experience, and it was also helpful for me to hear in detail about each stage of the dressing and why the nurse did things in a particular way.

I was very happy with my experience at Fiona Stanley, appreciating that a surgeon came to confirm the doctor's plan for treatment. I was also visited by a Physiotherapist who took me through recovery activities and provided a print-out of stretches to do.

Upon my return to Busselton I attended regular dressing changes at Busselton Health Campus' outpatient service. Nurse Ann is wonderful. She is very friendly and welcoming. She is clearly experienced and very professional. She went above and beyond to talk to me about the different dressings and the rationale behind decisions made. She provided helpful follow-up and also spoke to me about scar maintenance. Once my regular dressings appointments ceased, she phoned me to ask how a couple of small blood blisters were going and to advise that she had spoken to Fiona Stanley who had recommended another dressing to use over the next month while I am travelling internationally. Ann left a small supply of the dressing at reception for me to collect. I thoroughly appreciated this thorough-care and her attention to detail. She is an asset to the service.

Thanks
