"Severe postnatal depression"

About: St John of God Midland Hospital

(as the patient),

Next day after giving birth to twins, and a first time mum, I experienced severe postnatal depression/anxiety and panic attacks. I hadn't eaten or slept, and experienced these symptoms for 4-5 days prior to requesting to be discharged. In this time I received minimal help from staff, no help in breastfeeding or learning to and I felt staff completely ignoring my mental state. I kept telling staff I was not okay, but all I received was a volunteer who talked at me for 10 minutes then left. I then left the hospital to seek help elsewhere. I have since been incapacitated with PND. I feel angry now that I have had the time to process all that happened to me and what I believe was the lack of care by the hospital.

Our hospital strives to provide a high standard of antenatal and postnatal care and it is disappointing that you felt you did not receive the care you required during your admission on all occasions.
