I had my baby up at the Emergency Department one night. My baby had a fever, vomiting and was not taking their bottles. They looked my baby over, and took a urine sample. They said my baby was fine, the urine test came back from the lab as a slight UTI (urinary tract infection), other than that my baby was completely fine. And we were sent on our way.
Four hours later my baby woke up with an extremely high temperature and power vomiting. We decided to take our baby to our doctor. He took one look at our baby and sent us straight through to the Emergency Department, with a referral saying our baby needed to be seen ASAP, as it was urgent. Our baby had only had 180ml of milk and 1 wet nappy in nearly 24 hours.
Took our baby straight in the Emergency Department, the triage nurse looked our baby over and we were sent out to the waiting room. We were told it would be a maximum of 10 minutes before we were seen. Three hours later of our baby screaming the waiting room down, we were finally seen.
For them to take our baby's obs and listen to their chest. They gave our baby some hydrating stuff in water. That’s it. We were then told our baby must just have an infection as the results for our baby's urine test (from the previous night) came back clean. Um not that we were told that. It came back as a UTI, so we believe we were lied to about our baby's results.
We then did a nappy change (2nd wet nappies in over 24 hours) and were told by the doctor that cause she had a wet nappy, she is completely fine now. She still wouldn’t take any more bottle. But we were sent on our way. Well our child has gotten worse, still not producing wet nappies or taking bottles.
This time we will be driving 2 hours to the Perth Children’s Hospital as we feel we cannot trust that the doctors at Bunbury will care for our child. It seems they are more concerned about clearing beds than they are about their patients. I think it's disgusting that a young baby gets treated this way.
