"Carnarvon Hospital"

About: Carnarvon Hospital / Emergency Department Royal Flying Doctor Service Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as the patient),

Early one morning recently I awoke with acute chest pain and a rapid heartbeat. My wife sought the help of our neighbors in the caravan park and one of them called an ambulance. How lucky are we to have such dedicated volunteers. Thanks guys you soon had me sorted out and in the ambulance - extraction from a caravan is not easy. On arrival at Carnarvon Hospital emergency department the medical team took over, they carried out their assessment and and started to get my heart rate under control. It was 229bpm on arrival. I have nothing but praise for the way I was treated -professional and courteous. The entire hospital is to be congratulated including ancillary staff, without whom the hospital could not function. Late that afternoon after consultation with specialists from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital cardiology unit the decision was made to transfer me to Perth by RFDS. The flight time out was 2140 the same ambulance officers who picked me up in the morning also came to take me to the airport. A huge thanks to all at St Johns Ambulance Carnarvon. To the RFDS what a great job you do 24 hours a day. I have, like a lot of people, donated money to this organisation - I now have first hand experience and will encourage more people to donate. SCG Hospital you were fantastic. Could not have had better treatment. After several tests the diagnosis was Supraventricular Tachycardia. I am now back in Carnarvon enjoying life with my wonderful wife and our caravan fraternity. To all people involved thank you. I have omitted names because all of you deserve praise, not one person - our health system is the best in the world.

God bless you all.

Dear Stormingnomad

What a wonderful story, thank you for taking the time to share with us on Patient Opinion. I was so pleased to hear of the high quality care and attention you received from our Carnarvon team. This once again highlights the calibre of staff we have working in our service. WA Country Health Service strive to provide patient centred care and the team at Carnarvon will be delighted to hear your positive feedback. Stories like yours allow staff to hear about the effect they have on a person's health care experience which lets them know what they are doing well and in some cases what can be improved.

It certainly takes a team to provide health care to our community and the Carnarvon team work very closely with both the RFDs and St John Ambulance and I will pass your feedback on. Patient Opinion has passed your kind words on to the team at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Thanks again for taking the time to write, I'm so pleased to hear that you are back enjoying life with your family and friends.

Best wishes

Michele

Dear Stormingnomad,

Thank you so much for sharing your recent experience of our Health Care System including Carnarvon and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals, St John’s Ambulance and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. I can only imagine what a frighting event this must have been for you and your wife. I was so thrilled to read that everything from transfer from your caravan to your flight to Perth and then back to Carnarvon following treatment went so smoothly; and most importantly that the staff were able to quickly identify and treat your complaint. It is always so heartening to hear these stories and I know the staff involved in your care will be pleased as well – I will ensure this is passed onto them.

Thank you again for your wonderful feedback and I do hope that you are fully recovered and continuing your caravan adventures with your wife.

Kind regards

Geraldine Carlton
