"My mother's stays in hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a carer),

My elderly mother had occasion to stay in hospital twice in the last 6 weeks. She broke her pubic bone and had 4 nights in hospital until she stabilised. Because she had dementia and was a fall risk there was a nurse in her room 24/7. Unbelievable. The standard of care was impeccable.

Unfortunately, the second visit was palliative care following a perforated bowel. Again she was in hospital for around 5 days until she passed away. The care was outstanding. The nurses went above and beyond to ensure the very best of care. They treated us, the family, with respect, empathy and understanding. Nothing was too difficult.

I can't speak highly enough of all of the overall treatment during such a harrowing time.

ThankfulDaughter

Dear ThankfulDaughter

I was saddened to read of your mothers passing, my deepest condolences to you and your family. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share you and your mothers experience on Patient Opinion in what must be a very sad time for you. Our staff really do a wonderful job and I was so pleased to read that the care your mother received in her time of need was compassionate and respectful. Stories like yours remind us that providing healthcare is so much more than treating the ill, it’s about providing compassion, empathy and supportive care to both the patient and their loved ones.

I know the team at the Geraldton Hospital strive to provide high quality person centred care and it is through feedback such as yours that reinforces that we are doing it well. I will take great pride in passing on your lovely compliment and acknowledgement to our very committed frontline staff and hospital management.

Patient Opinion allows us an opportunity to strengthen the partnership we have with our service users by allowing patients, families and carers the chance to share their personal stories and it really does keep myself and our organisation closely connected with what matters most to our health service users.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your kind words and I wish you and your family all the very best.

Kind regards

Michele
