"No rest or privacy with a particular patient in a shared room"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Armitage House

(as a relative),

My parent, who is currently in Armitage House for rehabilitation after a full hip replacement, unfortunately, has to share a room with someone who doesn't respect boundaries.

No private conversations can be had without this particular person giving their opinion, and when they are not giving their unwelcome opinion they are either moaning and groaning or being rude to the lovely nurses, cleaners and food serving staff.

For my parent, who is normally very physically and socially active, it is very disheartening to see them unhappy. My parent is not one to complain and will try and make the best of any situation, but this person is wearing them down.

For the mental well-being of my parent, I urge you to relocate this person to another room.

Dear earthwy63,

Thanks so much for your feedback. The Operations Manager for Armitage went over to the ward as soon as we received your post - I am advised that our staff were proactively managing this issue as best they could, notwithstanding the limitations of our current facilities - as you know, we have very limited single rooms which are all used for palliative/unwell patients. You will hopefully now be aware that the issue has been resolved today through the patient's discharge. I am sorry that your father's experience has been diminished by the interactions of this other patient.

Kind Regards,

Jan
