"Digital imaging service"

About: Macquarie University Hospital

(as the patient),

Recently at Macquarie Imaging - MRI Unit/Wing:

1. I have witnessed staff having a disagreement with each other in view of patients, the same woman who was rude to me minutes later and whose verbal assault reduced me to tears. This episode was witnessed by her colleague also performing my MRI.

2. MRI staff member performing the MRI pulled me up for re-scheduling several appointments saying - we have had a few failed attempts with this.... we are busy you know! Her tone matched what I believe is reserved for use on a recalcitrant teenager, delivered to me, someone in their 40s.

I was not late for the appointment.

I did not hold staff up getting changed into a gown.

I did have to witness an altercation between two staff as I sat in the change booth, curtain open waiting for the MRI to begin.

I was not rude or uncooperative.

I should not have to be made to feel so confronted by an MRI staff member that I am obligated to apologise to her and her colleague for re-scheduling, explaining that extenuating, traumatic family matters were the reason; having to explain this was upsetting.

I have had a medical matter for some time now which requires me to visit the Macquarie University Hospital regularly. The staff in other units I have attended are polite and attentive. My treatment is scheduled to continue at Macquarie University Hospital. At this point I am not going to return to Macquarie Imaging until I am assured that what seems to me to be staff practice of bailing up patients and one another in front of patients is addressed.

If you could please arrange for MRI staff to receive training in customer service and provide them with the Hospital's Code of Conduct. I would like to think my tax dollars and medical bills are subsidising this.

Macquarie University Hospital, please provide a response to this email.
