"Eastern Health Stroke Support"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Neurology Box Hill Hospital / Rehabilitation Peter James Centre

(as the patient),

I had a stroke at around 10pm one evening.  The mobile intensive care ambulance arrived very promptly and I was in Box Hill Hospital before midnight in Ward 9. 2, a specialised ward for stroke patients.  I had a CT scan very quickly (necessary to know whether or not to give blood thinners) and received excellent care.   After 6 days I was discharged to the Peter James Centre for rehab, where I spent 12 days as an inpatient before discharge to home under a program known as Early Supported Discharge, which is intended for patients who are recovering relatively quickly.   Then followed 4 weeks of intensive physio and occupational therapy  and doctor review (mostly at Peter James, but with some home visits) before my final discharge.   I understand that there is a 6 week follow-up doctor appointment.   All through my experience I received an outstanding level of care from competent and enthusiastic staff and I cannot recommend them highly enough.  Thank you Eastern Health for my recovery to date.  My only negative comment is the inability of Eastern Health to schedule timely follow-up tests such as Echocardiogram and Holter Monitor which are needed to further assess the reasons for my stroke - I  have been told that these may take 4 months to schedule.

Dear Ventnorvet

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share feedback on your experience both at Box Hill Hospital and Peter James Centre following your stroke.

It will give me great pleasure to share your comments with the team in ward 9.2 at Box Hill, the inpatient ward and home based services. It will mean a lot to these teams, the difference their efforts have made.

I note the issues with timely access to Echocardiogram and Holter Monitor services. Should your treating doctor want this earlier, whilst I can't guarantee an earlier time, disucssing your needs with the cardiac doctors will confirm the most appropraite timing of these tests.

Thank you again robinkj74 and I wish you the very best of health.

Kind regards

David
