"Lack of care"

About: Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Found a lump on the inside of my left leg after having two arthroscopic surgeries to the left knee weeks before. Went to the ED department after talking to nurse on call that night. When I got there waited in waiting room for some time had a nurse come out and gave myself some painkillers with no water. When I was called in doctor looked at leg, looked at lump, then explained that it’s not a clot and when I can, go and get ultrasound because one at hospital was closed and there is not much they could do for me. Come Monday after a very bad weekend to find out from my local doctor that I have an 8 cm blood clot in my leg and that it broke away over the weekend and I now have two small clots on my lungs and now in Ringwood Private Hospital being injected with blood thinners to remove the clots.

Dear arark65,

I was very concerned to read your story on Patient Opinion and would like to apologise for your experience at Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department.

Could I please ask if you can make contact with the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience on 1800 EASTERN or feedback@easternhealth.org.au so we can undertake a full investigation of your care.

Once again, I am sorry that your experience was not a positive one. We take feedback such as your very seriously so I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind Regards,

David
