"My treatment by the anaesthetist"

About: Royal Darwin Hospital

(as the patient),

I had to have cortisone injections in my back and in my opinion the anaesthetist that was on duty was very rude to me. First he kept sticking the needle into my left hand and I was screaming in pain. He then started to do it on my right hand. I asked him why he was doing that and he just said he had to do the same to the left hand. I was very stressed out and scared. Luckily for me that needle went straight in without pain. Every other anaesthetist I have had, would find a suitable vein that would be used and didn't have any pain. They always explain to me what is happening and have always been very caring when I have previously had those injections. I asked if I could climb up on the bed because my back is very fragile. He said no I couldn't and put me on a gurney to flip me over onto the bed. I was terrified because my back is so fragile.

When I got home my left hand was very badly bruised and had red marks where the tape was put on my right wrist. I was very upset. I know I will have to have those injections in the future and I don't want that person to be there again.

When I went back to see my Back Specialist, I told her what happened and showed her the photos. She was very apologetic and told me to put in a complaint.
