"Palliative Care"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as a parent/guardian),

After a 14 year battle with brain cancer my brother-in-law passed away in the palliative care ward at Kalgoorlie Health Campus recently.

As his guardian, it was important to me that this kind, lovely man's end of life journey was peaceful. I am happy to say that he was treated with dignity, respect, empathy, compassion and kindness by everyone who came into contact with him.  This includes the St John Ambulance Officers that transported him to the Palliative Care ward, the cleaner and the person who delivered my meals.

His end of life journey commenced months before he was admitted to the palliative care ward - Amelda and the palliative care team provided comprehensive care to my brother-in-law at his supported accommodation at Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association (GIFSA) where he was able to stay until 5 days before his death.

GIFSA accommodation at Pira Way, under the guidance of Helen worked with the Palliative team to provide fabulous care to the point where, when my brother-in-law was eventually moved to the Kalgoorlie Health Campus, he had no pressure area injuries.  This is a credit to the non-clinical staff that cared for him.

I would like to thank Amelda - Manager of the Palliative Care Team first and foremost for everything she did, nothing was too much and she made herself available 24/7. Thanks also to the Palliative Care team that assisted my brother-in-law to enable him to be comfortable at home.

Thank you to Candice the Nurse Manger of B ward - your care and concern was greatly appreciated by our family and you should be very proud of your beautiful nurses who looked after my loved one with so much kindness.

Thank you to Dr Sean and his team for your care and kindness.

Dear Nolyq39

Thank you for your kind words. I am saddened at hearing of the passing of your brother-in-law, but at the same time gladdened to hear of the support he received from the many services involved. I will pass on your thanks to the WA Country Health Service staff, as well as GIFSA and St John Ambulance.

My condolences to you and your family.

Kind regards
