"Excellent service at the nursing post at Yalgoo, Western Australia"

About: Yalgoo Health Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

On arrival into Yalgoo for a family camping trip, we headed straight to the Nursing Post as my child's eye lids had become very swollen and she was struggling to open her eyes. Mary-Kate was the nurse on duty and she was wonderful. Very thorough in all her medical observations which she reported back to the Health team in Perth for further advice.   She was very competent to then carry out all treatments prescribed by the doctors. Her calm, caring and methodical manner instilled us with much confidence despite this rather unusual ailment. Being able to speak directly with the doctors in Perth via video link was also very reassuring.   The healthcare provided in this lovely, but small, remote town is excellent.   Mary-Kate is to be commended for her service and wonderful nursing skills.   We greatly appreciated it and I'm sure the town does too. Please do all possible to support Mary-Kate and this Nursing Post, it is invaluable to the people of Yalgoo.

Dear listendk96

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Patient Opinion. It can be a little stressful when you are away from home and your child becomes unwell and it was great to read that Mary-Kate provided high quality compassionate care. Mary-Kate has been working with WA Country Health Service coming up to 30 years and is a much valued member of the team. I have personally passed your compliment on to Mary-Kate who was so pleased to hear your kind words.

The video link you speak of is the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) which is a wonderful service that uses videoconferencing equipment to connect local doctors and nurses with highly trained, emergency medicine specialists. The emergency medicine specialist is linked via videoconference, providing guidance to the local treating team. A consultation with an ETS doctor is just like any other ‘in person’ consultation and allows us to provide high quality specialist care close to home.

Thanks again for taking the time to write. I hope your child has made a speedy recovery and your family were able to enjoy your camping trip.

Best wishes

Michele
