I was in a very dark place prior to my admission at Mirikai and felt very little hope for my future. I didn't want to do rehabilitation as I thought I was too far gone and believed it would be a waste of time. I came into Mirikai unmotivated and mostly not willing to change. The staff were extremely patient with my unapproachable temperament and convinced me to stay. The program was very helpful for me as it worked on many of the areas I was lacking in and some areas of my character that I didn't even realize needed improvement. I soon began to find my feet, and began to work on many of the social and life skills I was lacking. I am now in their Oasis housing and am soon re-commencing my university studies, something I previously believed to be out of my reach. Mirikai has not only saved my life, but taught me how to live a much better life. The treatment facilitator team is amazing and are very good at one-on-one counselling and referring clients to beneficial external services to help with re-integrating into society. I am a much better version of myself than I was when I first came into Mirikai and I am starting to really enjoy life for the first time in a very long period. The Mirikai program is not super strict and punitive, meaning that one must be self motivated to truly benefit from it. I like this model because the independence they give you prepares you for the real world.
