I had a terrible pain in my chest and was getting breathless. As a woman in my 60's I was worried it my be a heart attack or a blood clot as I recently returned from a long flight. My husband drove me to the Angliss Hospital Emergency Department. It was Sunday afternoon and relatively busy. Despite this, the intake worker was friendly, efficient and considered. After a short wait, I was attended to in a calming and professional manner. The communication by all staff was clear, at an appropriate level for my educational background and staff were reassuring that the tests they did would help identify the cause of the pain and shortness of breath. They demonstrated empathy for my worry and concern without alarming me more. Fortunately the tests ruled out a heart attack or blood clot and it most likely was a pulled chest muscle. I could not have asked for better care and I would like to express my appreciation and thank you to all staff. I know that many emergency departments have to deal with stressful situations, creating a toxic environment for staff and patients. Not sure what the magic formula is at the Angliss Hospital, but I had the feeling staff love to be there and they are supported to do a great job and have the resources to do it.
