Recently my toddler took a tumble and took a big gash out of their head. Arriving to ED we were promptly seen by the triage nurse Sharon who spoke gently and with empathy towards my toddler, making our toddler feel comfortable and at ease. When we were taking into ED we were greeted by RN Bess. Bess was amazing. Bess spoke directly to my toddler and took time to explain what was happening both to myself and my child. Bess was very patient, used child friendly language and went above and beyond to make my toddler feel comfortable. She even treated my child’s teddy like a patient making my little one feel very comfortable.

When the doctors came in, they too spoke gently and calmly to my child. Dr Fiona was exceptional in explaining what was happening and why. The overall care and excellent communication made what could have been an extremely stressful situation, a straightforward process. My toddler walked out with a smile on their face and positive memory of their visit to hospital.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your story about your experience in our Emergency Department recently.

My name is Paul and I am the Acting Executive Manager of the Emergency Department at Central Gippsland Health.

I am very glad to hear that our fabulous ED staff made your experience with us so much easier. Treating children in ED can be more stressful for the parents than it is for the child, so it’s great to hear your experience was relaxed.

I will pass on your kind comments to the ED team with my congratulations. I am certain your story will be hugely rewarding and inspirational for the staff.

As a health service, our goal is that all our patients will all have an experience like yours. It is gratifying to hear of the positive impact we can have in our patient's lives.
