Last year I was admitted to the emergency Department with confusion (only knowing my own name), stiff neck, extremely bad headache, couldn't see, tingling down one side and trembling. They admitted me quickly (which I appreciate), the nurses were great and caring, but unfortunately the doctor on duty said that I had gastro. I was there most of the day and was asked to leave even though my symptoms were still present and with no further treatment other than the few bags of saline.
This past year I have still been suffering with various ongoing symptoms. I found out from my GP 10 months after my admission, that I had viral meningitis and my GP didn’t understand why I was sent home so early as it could have been fatal. Although I was tested for meningacoccal no one thought to do a lumber puncture, which I feel could have led to further treatment and a much shorter recovery time. These constant trips to the GP and specialists have not only cost me financially, but has affected me mentally and physically. I feel that this misdiagnosis and constantly being fobbed off by several other doctors is horrendous. It's not only cost me a lot of money so far (as still not fully recovered), but it's almost cost me my life. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.
