"Armadale & Kelmscott Hospital - Treatment and Care of my son"

About: Armadale Hospital / Colyer Surgical & Medical Ward Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Recently I was visiting my son in Western Australia when he became ill and taken to the A&E section of the Armadale & Kelmscott Hospital. (AKH)

From his admission into the A&E on the Friday until his eventual discharge the following Monday I can only commend all staff who attended to my son. Staff being from A&E and Colyer Ward.

On the following day (Tuesday) my son collapsed at home and his partner rushed him back to the ER of AKH.

As I write this, I am finding it difficult to find words that would be adequate to thank staff within the ER, Colyer Ward and Theatre staff.

At A&E I was to be informed by staff that my son was to require emergency surgery. A&E staff along with the specialists (Theatre) who attended to my son were exceptional. Even though very busy staff took time to fully explain the circumstances as to my son's poor health and what was intended. Nursing staff provided excellent support to both myself and my son’s partner.

Following a 4.5 hour operation (in which time nursing staff from A&E made a point of seeking us out to offer support) my son was again admitted to Colyer Ward. Without exception the duty of care offered to my son and support to both myself and my son's partner was exceptional. As stated I am unable to find words adequate enough to fully describe how the care of my son was a blessing to me. To all staff who attended to my son during his stay in Colyer ward I give you 12/10. All exceptional and very professional people. I wish I could provide names, but you know who you are. From my soul I THANK YOU.

The standard of cleanliness throughout the hospital was very good. All staff appeared to be neatly dressed and their uniforms clean and well presented*.

From my Heart please accept my grateful thanks to all at AKH who through their dedication and commitment I believe saved the life of my son, and whose professionalism clearly demonstrated an exceptional caring and nursing ethic.

Thank You.

*It is of interest that I have not found nursing staff here in the UK to appear as neat & tidy as was my observations at AKH. In saying that I wonder if staff at AKH actually wear their nursing uniforms off site, as within the UK we have been subjected to constant outbreaks of virus’s in hospitals that have affected patients. As a lay-person, I feel allowing staff to openly wear their nursing uniforms off site may have a bearing on these matters. What can be picked up onto a nursing uniform as you walk around a Supermarket, or as I have seen on more that one occasion a nurse sat in a pub at 2100 still in the nursing uniform. But this is the UK not Perth.

Your response identifies that your business area takes pride in its business ethics.

My words were simply to identify my thoughts and observations on what is an excellent and, appears to be, well-run hospital.

You thank me... no, no, it is I who thanks you.

My son is on the road to hopefully a full recovery. Thank you all from my heart!
