About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby was admitted for the night due to a nasty cough. I found the care of the nurses and doctors to be excellent and I was impressed with the meals.

My only concern was that they couldn’t provide the baby with puréed food and dropped off custard and jelly and a banana. They also didn’t have appropriate baby feeding spoon. Such a minor thing, but maybe they could look at getting some baby spoons and food in. Also the bells go through the entire wards instead of isolated to your section so was quite hard to sleep.

I’d say overall though the care was the most important thing and they were very careful to make sure my baby was ok. Supportive towards me as a parent as well. Well done to all :)

Dear Mamabear87

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Patient Opinion. I was sorry to read that your little one was unwell and so very pleased that the care you both received from the doctors and nurses at the Geraldton Hospital was of a high standard. I will take great pleasure in passing your feedback onto the team, inclusive of the kitchen staff as I know they will be delighted to receive your positive feedback.

I was concerned to read about the lack of access to pureed food and appropriate feeding utensils. I have contacted Derek Fraser, Operations Manager Geraldton Hospital and advised him of your experience. Derek has advised that based on your feedback an audit was conducted on the availability of baby feeding spoons and it was identified that there was a shortage and a quantity of spoons has now been ordered. Derek is currently looking into your concerns regarding the availability of pureed food and I will update this post with the outcome. In regards to the call bell the team at the Geraldton Hospital are currently investigating options for an upgrade to the nurse on call system.

Should you wish to discuss your experience further I encourage you to contact Derek on 9956 2369 or myself, Michele Young on 9956 8695 or michele.young@health.wa.gov.au. Your call would be very welcome and can still be addressed anonymously if you wish.

Thanks again for taking the time to write, we really value your feedback as it has allowed us an opportunity to reflect on what we do well and where we need to improve. I hope your little one is on the mend and I wish you and your family all the best.

Kind regards

Michele
