"Antenatal care"

About: Sale Hospital / Women's and Children's

(as the patient),

I was really disappointed when I was recently informed by my GP that I am unable to access the WHIMS (Women's Health & Integrated Maternity Services) clinic in Sale for the antenatal care of my third child.

My previous two experiences with midwifery care have been absolutely fantastic and I’m now upset that this option has been taken away from the area for anyone other than health care concession card holders.

I’m now forced to travel an hour to go to Latrobe Regional Hospital or wear the financial burden of an obstetric specialist.

Not impressed!

Dear volansxd44

My name is Frank Evans and I am the CEO and Interim Director of Nursing and Clinical Support Services.

I am really sorry we appear to be unable to offer you this service at the moment.

We have increased our public antenatal clinic to 3 days a fortnight and the clinic is currently targeting women who would find it difficult or impossible to pay for private antenatal care. To screen for ability to pay we routinely use the pension or concession card.

Despite this the number of women seeking to use our antenatal clinic is more than we can look after in 3 days per fortnight. This is why we are working, as quickly as we can, to provide more clinic days so that we can offer this service to many more women.

The service is underpinned by our social justice value, where we are working to provide access for those most in need. We are always prepared to look at individual circumstances.

We have recently recruited a new Obstetrician, who is working from our WHIMS clinic, who I am sure will be happy to see you and you should not have any out of pocket expenses.

Please feel free to contact me directly at frank.evans@cghs.com.au or on 0351438319.

Kind regards

Frank
