(as the patient),

Needing simple small surgery like an endoscopy or a colonoscopy is impossible in country hospitals if you are overweight. This to me makes no sense, all it does is make the waiting lists in the big hospitals longer. Yet If you are admitted to a country hospital in an emergency it's fine?

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your concerns through Patient Opinion.

Our main priority is the safety of our patients and to ensure they receive the best care in the best place, and at times this may include transfer or referral to an alternative hospital.

Prior to admission, each patient undergoes an assessment based on their condition, care requirements, mobility and weight to ensure they can be safely cared for at Narrogin.

Where surgery is involved the medical team decide if it is safe to operate on a patient with a high Body Mass Index (BMI). This decision also takes into consideration the suitability of the hospital equipment, to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

I apologise if this was not explained to you by staff. Our staff have been asked to ensure they clearly explain all care decisions to our patients.
