Long story as this covers 5 months.
Shifted to Yalgoo area earlier this year, a month later got ankle infection. Telemedicine doctor sent me to Geraldton for doppler on leg to rule out DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).
All ok & emergency doctor treated infection.
A couple of months later ankle was swollen & looked like another infection. Mt Magnet Doctor was due at Yalgoo Nursing Post the following week, so saw him and he picked up that there was an issue with my leg, so organised another series of tests.
Tests were done lat the following month in Geraldton. Ankle again infected and had a small blood clot in leg. After explaining what had caused the infection and looking at my ankle, the Emergency Doctor realised it was an infection inside my ankle where the pin was. He got the Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Amen, in and they decided the pin had to come out and antibiotics taken.
Good experienced Doctors from Mt Magnet & Geraldton possibly saved my foot as if the infection was not stopped, I could have needed it amputated.
In hospital for Wednesday night, then I made them let me out as I had animals to look after. Back to hospital the following Sunday for operation on Monday.
Well looked after in Geraldton Regional Hospital. One nurse, Olly, was outstanding amongst a very good team. He took the time to find some extra information as he understood my concerns about some things due to living in remote location.
Ongoing treatment for 3 weeks at Yalgoo Nursing Post where Mary - Kate has been excellent in making sure everything is being done and communicating with Geraldton Hospital & Morawa Hospital. Morawa Hospital did medications and dressings on weekends and again excellent service. As my dressings and Baxter Pump for antibiotics are not that common in remote areas, it also served to help train some, of the nurses in things they would not have seen before. All this was done in a very professional way with a bit of humour thrown in and commentary from me.
Karen at Morawa Hospital is obviously very experienced and very particular that everything is done to a high standard. Morawa is very lucky to have someone like this at their hospital.
Mary - Kate at Yalgoo Nursing Post has been top class. A few months back, a visitor here was treated by Mary - Kate and was highly complimentary of how he was looked after.
There were many other staff who were outstanding and I don't know their names. The Emergency Dept Doctor, Dr Amen and his team, the Geraldton Hospital Pharmacist who spent a lot of time organising the Baxter Pumps to be delivered to Yalgoo & Morawa, the discharge nurse who made sure I had everything I needed (she was under a bit of pressure as I needed to be discharged that day to get taken home by a friend - 250 km from the hospital).
