"PATS Office"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Kimberley

(as the patient),

TOTALLY STRESSED OUT - I HAVE CANCER.

I went to see Broome PATS to get my flight organised because my next part of my cancer treatment is to have a general anaesthetic & biopsies staying over night in hospital . Again this particular lady at the PATS office tells me my wife cannot come to Perth because it’s not part of my cancer treatment and I needed to show her proof again that someone had to be there with me, so I had to drive home and look for something to show I needed a responsible adult when I am discharged.  I am bewildered that she states this is not part of my cancer treatment, I believe she has no right to decide what I have or have not. I didn’t ask to have cancer and this PATS lady has caused me to stress.

I’m stressed out already, and it’s bad enough when the Admin person at the main entrance in Perth tells me on my last trip in for a scan, that I was a waste of tax payers money, that’s just hurtful. I feel enough is enough.

Dear HAIRY,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience with the PATS office in Broome.

I am sorry that you feel stressed out by your experience. Your cancer treatment would be very challenging and a sensitive approach is essential and expected.

The PATS guidelines are very specific in regards to eligibility for escorts and require this request from your referring doctor or treating specialist to be provided to our PATS Officers.

I would encourage you to contact Donna Cox, Regional PATS Coordinator, to discuss your particular circumstances. Donna is contactable on (08) 9194 2334.

I hope your trip to Perth goes well.

Sincerely

Kelly
