I received a bad dog bite to my right forearm. This required surgery and 7 stitches together with teeth punctures. Fortunately, I had no serious muscle or tendon damage and no nerve damage.
Obviously, I was in pain.
At Sutherland Hospital, I was seen very quickly by a very nice and knowledgeable triage nurse who classified me as ‘fast track’.
Due to the level of emergencies, etc. on the night, however, it was about 4.5 hours before a doctor could see me.
The doctor and all nurses who attended me on the night were extremely competent and a pleasure to deal with.
They also booked me into Sydney Hand Hospital for the following day and cleaned and dressed my wounds including a half cast to the forearm.
At Sydney Hand Hospital, all together I was attended to by 5 different nurses as well as a doctor and surgeon during the day.
Although the competence and attention I received from everybody was every bit as good as Sutherland Hospital, I had the distinct impression that everybody who attended me very much enjoyed their work and this came through in their treatment of me.
Due to the skill and competence of nurses and doctors at both hospitals I have suffered no infection to the wounds and the major wound was completely closed 2 weeks after surgery and no longer needed dressing.
I was very much impressed with the results of my visit to these hospitals which I feel is due entirely to the competence, skill and care of all involved.
