"Notification of surgery date"

About: Albany Health Campus

(as the patient),

Giving just a week's notice of impending surgery is very unsatisfactory. I was not contacted by phone, but by mail, which I only collect once a week, due to distance. I live remotely and needed more time to organise transport from the hospital and for accommodation in Albany. I have voluntary obligations where I need to give more than a week's notice too.

I rang the hospital to get confirmation, had to leave a message, and the admissions people did not call me back.

Dear Pigswillfly

I understand preparations for surgery can take considerable organising and can also disrupt our lives in recovery. Apologies if your notification came at such late notice.

We do endeavour to allocate and inform patients of their surgical date in sufficient time to put plans in place for those things. Each Specialty has inherent requirements for notification and pre-admission, as such I would be keen to follow up in your particular case where our process failed. If you would agree to discuss this further please call 9892 2647 so as we can follow up with our process.

Thank you for the feedback, the discussion has enabled us to identify an improvement we can make in one of our Specialty's pre-admission process.
