"Good treatment and care in Geraldton Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department GPs in the Durack Electoral District

(as the patient),

I was admitted following some numbness which ran from my hand to my face.

I had been concerned that I was having a stroke or something, as I had never experienced anything like that before.

I had a thorough screening in the Emergency Department and then had further investigations during my 2-night admission.

All the staff were very proficient, professional and caring. Every staff member who approached me was very pleasant.

The facilities were clean, comfortable and equipment was in good working order. My room (17) on the ward was very comfortable and surprisingly quiet.

The food was excellent! I was discharged with my discharge summary, script and information about TIA (transient ischaemic attack).

Following discharge, I was called by a staff member of the Day Therapy Unit (as planned) where she assessed my symptoms since discharge. She offered further support which I declined as I did not feel I needed it.

Today I have seen my GP Dr Heather, who had my discharge summary and further investigation results which I had asked to be forwarded to her. She gave me a physical and neurological examination.

Dear Geraldton patient

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion regarding your care at the Geraldton Hospital, it was wonderful to read about your positive healthcare experience from admission to discharge and beyond. Your feedback reinforces our commitment to providing high quality person centred care and putting our consumers first in all that we do.

The team at the Geraldton Hospital strive to provide professional, safe, high-quality care and are always seeking a greater understanding of the key drivers contributing to a positive patient experience. Your lovely compliment highlights the things that are important to our patients when they are unwell and apprehensive and is a reminder that caring and compassion really does go a long way.

Food is an integral part of the healing process for our patients and a significant aspect of overall health and well-being. The Geraldton Hospital runs taste testing sessions where we ask members of the community and our staff to taste test the food that is provided to our patients and its great to hear from your feedback that all of the work the team have been doing behind the scenes is paying off.

It certainly takes a team to provide care to our community and I will take great pride in passing on your wonderful compliment to the teams at the Geraldton Hospital as I know our staff really appreciate receiving feedback like yours and it is fantastic to see their efforts publicly acknowledged.

Thanks again for taking the time to write. Patient Opinion strengthens the partnership we have with our patients, their families and carers by allowing an opportunity for them to share their personal stories which keeps myself and our organisation closely connected with what matters most.

I do hope that you are well on the road to recovery and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Warm regards

Michele
