"Hospital surgical waitlist timeframes"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as the patient),

I am under the care of Dr Kannan at Royal Perth Hospital. The care and attention received from him and his team of nurses over the years has been fantastic. 

However, I have been placed on a surgical wait-list for a condition (which could potentially escalate and end me back in hospital) for 10 months and counting. I understand that other cases have priority, but I expected to receive an appointment within a 3 month time-frame as advised by the hospital. I believe providing more staffing resources would mean that situations like this do not happen. I think it would be more cost effective in the long run as doing so would prevent secondary complications occurring whilst waiting or preventing a hospitalisation due to surgical intervention being too slowly enacted. In my opinion, even employing just one extra consultant in the department would ease the pressure on those who are doing their jobs well, but are currently stretched to their limits. Reward the good work of your staff by providing them with the resources they need to work effectively.
