"Compassionate and caring women's physio"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

In many years of dealing with endometriosis, I have had some awful experiences. I've left doctors offices in tears, having been poked and prodded, dismissed, disbelieved, fobbed off, and told there is nothing that can help. I have felt helpless, unheard, unseen.

This all changed when, after 10 years and many awful failed treatments, I finally saw endometriosis experts at King Edward Memorial Hospital. It is the first time I have gone through the public system, and I will admit the wait times and seeing different doctors each visit can be challenging and frustrating. But every doctor I have dealt with has been knowledgeable and truly listened to me, they have asked my opinion on treatments, have given me options, and when I had surgery they actually used the gold standard of treatment. The surgery was tough and I unexpectedly had to stay overnight, but the nurses were so kind and did everything they could to make me feel more comfortable.

Following surgery, I've been referred on to the physiotherapy department, and there I have met the kindest, most compassionate and understanding health professional I have ever dealt with. From the moment I walked into her room, Naomi made me feel at ease, despite the sometimes painful and invasive nature of treatment. She has made me feel like no question is too dumb, she truly listens to my suggestions, and constantly encourages me to listen to my own body. Naomi really thinks about the whole person she is treating, and her obvious elation at every little patient win is fantastic, like having your own cheerleader. Naomi is gentle and approachable, she truly makes me feel listened to, and with an illness that is so often misunderstood that is the greatest gift. Although I still have times when this illness and the slow treatment process makes me feel frustrated, KEMH and particularly Naomi have given me a renewed sense of hope.
